Beer Battle Royale!!!

So maybe I’m getting a little out of order here…but who cares? It won’t upset you if I talk about the glorious weekend in a non-chronological order will it? Is that a word???
We represented Halloween in style for the lovely folks of Sakae in downtown Nagoya, and Nate will bring the pain when he talks about that later. I will start the week off right with a Beer Battle Royale that took place outside of Toyohashi early Saturday morning.
Nate and I found each other outside of the station early Saturday morn, reliving the events of the night before and excited about the day of touring microbreweries that was ahead of us. Of course before embarking on the journey, and waiting for Miyuki to get ready (a lot of our time here is spent waiting on the girls to get ready…) we decided to check the local Lawson convenience store and see if they had anything new to offer.
What did we find staring us in the face? Why, none other than Suntory’s The Premium Malts BLACK and Yebisu’s new Amber lager. What better time to try out a new Yebisu brew, and what better to compare it with than the best macro produced brew in Japan???
Right off the bat, The Black Malts hit us square in the face with some taste. Now that’s a good brew!!! Full body, lasting taste, roasted malt flavor…this is what a dark brew should taste like!
Following that one with a Yebisu Amber was a bad choice. No real amber flavor, little taste, not too much different than Yebisu’s traditional lager.
Like Kimbo Slice, the Yebisu Amber lager was all hype and no punch, but at least a worthy contender knocked it out. (We can’t say the same for Kimbo!) Yebisu continues to disappoint as it’s beers are overpriced and lacking in taste and body. Be warned!!
The Black Malts is back. This is some good beer. Go out and get some today, you never know how long a thing like this will last!
Beer Battle Royale was over. One beer was left standing, and standing tall and black it was. Suntory’s The Premium Malt’s Black…get it while you can!!

Yes, that is a picture of me drinking Yebisu and, No, I did not enjoy it. Believe it or not, wasting beer is a bigger sin than drinking Yebisu when there is a Suntory Premium product in the vicinity.
