So, you've tried Nagoya Land Beer's Kinshachi Red Miso Lager...but have you had the special addition Okazaki Hacchou Miso Lager? Keeping pace with their Green Tea Lager, Kinshachi is out to push the envelope when it comes to strange Japanese items finding their way into the brew.
Okazaki is known for some good miso, and I admit that it is a neat concept. Beer brewed in Aichi using something that a town in Aichi is famous for!
This brew is pricey at $5 a bottle, but worth it just to say you have tried it. The beer does have a good, interesting taste, but I struggle to say that it tastes like miso. Red Miso is usually a domintaing flavor in food, but in this beer it is not. They must not use much of it when they brew, although the beer does have a slight nutty taste at the end. I think it compares to some of the pecan lagers that I have had when traveling through The South. (Of course by The South I mean, THE SOUTH--or the land in America below the Ohio River and above the Florida state line)
This brew isn't outstanding, but it is good. I would drink it again, and would love to try it on tap. Unfortunately, when visiting Land Beer's tap room, Beer Circus, no miso lager is available on tap! Before I tried this bottle I had a sampler set from Beer Circus, and will post about that joint soon!!!!
For all of us in Aichi and proud of it, I say grab a bottle and toast everything that Aichi is famous for: Great seafood, melons, cabbage, red miso, tebasaki, and The Good Beer Country Boys!

You should try the Imperial Chocolate Stout that came out from Kinshachi recently. Yummy stuff. 8% ABV. Nice winter warmer. Cool site. I am learning alot about Tokai area ji-biiru. Might make a trip down to Shizuoka and Aichi over the holidays to sample some of the beers you talk about.
Friend! The Imperial Chocolate Stout is indeed an interesting brew and is available at a few local stores and at Beer Circus! No doubt about the high alcohol brews warming the winter! That's what us KY boys keep bourbon around for!
Let me know where you plan on going and I'll give you some tips! Also...give us some info on the ji-biru in your area!
My area is Tokyo - too long to explain.
I looked at my schedule and it would be interesting to go directly to Hamamatsu, hit the two brewpubs you visited there (thanks for the reviews , very helpful) and I would also like to hit Hamanako, but it seems they don't have a restaurant, but their beers are still sold online. Weird.
After these two places, hit Den and Inuyama/Lorely brewpub in Nagoya. Probably also hit Kinshachi if they have a restaurant. From there I would like to hit Isekadoya and maybe one other in Mie. Seems to be quit a few there. From there go to Moku Moku, then across to Nagahama, where they have 150 yen/glasses, or 290yen/pint, 800yen/pitchers on till the end of the month. Then head back to Tokyo. Thinking 28-30th. Will likely drag down one of the crew here as well- but maybe not. Haven't looked into the logistics of this yet, but imagine it will be difficult. I heard Moku Moku is a pain to get to. I will also be using the Seijuni Hachi Kippu, otherwise it would be too expensive to travel. Will firm plans this week. Any interest in meeting up. Also, if you know of any cheap places to crash in Hamamatsu, Nagoya, etc, that would be appreciated. Also, if you have any other to recommend in Shizuoka (past Numazu), Aichi or Mie, please let me know.
Could you hit Baird Beer? Skip Loreley Beer in Inuyama....out of the way and honestly not worth your time. Hit Beer Circus in downtown Nagoya for a great time, also Moku Moku has a restaurant 15 min from Beer Circus where you can drink their beer--but make reservations. Moku moku's farm in Mie is WAY out of the way although they do offer tours...I'd skip it and head down to Ise. Great culture and great beer. The joints in Hamamatsu are worth checking out, but coming from Tokyo you might not be as impressed as us country folk are! Also, if i can sway you at all...go to Takayama and enjoy the mountains and some GREAT BEER.
I'm leaving for KY in the morning or we could for sure meet up. Places to stay....I'm not an expert on. There are some cheap business hotels in Sakae and around Nagoya station. I would recommend staying around that area and venture out to the remote areas for a day trip. Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for the info. I have done Takayama before and that is a whole separate trip as it is such a lovely place to spend time.
Nothings firmed up yet, so it may or may not happen this time, but it will happen sometime.
Have fun back in Kentucky and let us know when you are up in Tokyo. I think Chris mentioned you are in contact with him.
I will make the trip to Tokyo soon! I need to let you city boys show us how it is done!
Oi! Less of the city boys tags, you scallywag!
You're talking about a Welsh farmer's boy. People die, up on our hills (not all of them because of us, either). I'll be joining Tim and Tim (yes, there are 2 of them) on this trip down to your area (ooer!). Looking forward to it. Thanks for the info. Hope you had a great Christmas and have a blast of a New Year! Wouldn't mind trying one of those Kentucky ales.
I'm off out now on a 10 quality taps, 6 hours all I can kil myself with live music party party party.
Was out pub crawling last night. Had 1 days break so far this month from the booze. 2 day booze trip in the morning. Yes, please come out to Tokyo and show us city boys how it's down.
The challenge has been set.
Tokyo. Pub crawl. Target, at least 8 pubs in the one night. Possbily more...
