I have returned from Hiroshima with stories to tell!!!! We had a great time in an amazing town and found two microbreweries that were great. We went to Ebisu no Utage and drank Heiwa beer, and went to Kure Beer. Kure was a little out of the way, but still great! While there we even got to meet the brewmaster and take some pictures wearing the actual medals that Kure's Alt, Kolsch, and weisen won in an international competition. I'll post reviews of both of those places this week... Already I am planning on where to go next. I'm lucky that I have a girl that loves microbrewed beer and traveling! I'm open to suggestions!!!
Also, in other news Nate came back to Japan last night, so I officially can be his friend again.
AND, in case you haven't followed the comments on this site...a couple of good fellas from the Tokyo area went on an Aichi beer tour over the Christmas Holiday. Of course they used some of the Good Beer Country Boy's info when deciding where to go. They posted excellent reviews of some of the places that we have talked about. Their opinions are slightly different from ours, which just go to show that one man's favorite brew is another man's piss water. And that is ok. What's most imporant is that beer lovers are uniting for the common good, and we WILL FOR SURE be going to Tokyo soon to party with these boys!
Here's some what they had to say:
We made it down to the Tokai area for a couple days beer hunting. This place was the highlight. Compared to Tokyo, we didn't find this expensive at all and maybe we made a mistake as we drank too much, but I didn't see a table charge. How much was it? This place was stellar with Iwatekura Oyster Stout and other great Japanese beers on tap. Tried the food, which I thought was pretty good, but only had the fish and chips, need to try other stuff to get a better sense of things. If I am ever back in Nagoya, I will definitely hang out here. Quick review of other places we went. Mein Schloss served a beer called Twinkle, which provided lots of entertainment for us. I thought the beers were non-descript as was the restaurant and food. Tenjingura - The beers sucked and the sake was mediocre at best. Inuyama Lorely - mediocre food and beer and we were the only ones in the restaurant! Moku Moku restaurant at Nagoya station - great great food and very nice beers (only two on draft and one in bottle.) Highly recommended for lunch and bring your appetite. On the way back we stopped at Hakone brewery - Pils and Pale Ale were not bad, but the 7.5% winter seasonal stout was the highlight of all the brewpubs/breweries we visited. Thanks for the info on the places you provided, very helpful.

Don't listen to Twinkle!! He's too elaborate.
p.s. next time you're in Hiroshima, try the Miyoshi Becken beer. One of the best weissens in Japan, as far as I'm concerned. Some good beer coming out of there recently. You guys may even get to meet the brewer's sister (woman who likes beer and likes to travel AND has a brewer brother beats woman who likes beer and likes to travel!) when you head out to Tokyo and drink with us. She's often around the events up here.
Chuwy...you got me there. I guess the only thing better than that would be a woman who is a brewer!!!! Will post some reviews soon from Hiroshima!!!!!
