I knew it was just a matter of time. Living here and knowing a little bit about the people, you knew this was coming. In a world where we have seen every fruit imaginable, tobacco, pecans, boubon, scotch, and more added to beer--anything is possible. The Japanese got it going with some strange ingredients like soba and miso paste, and raised the bar with green tea. Like I said, I knew it was coming, but I don't know if I am ready...
Fish in beer????
Tosa Kuroshio Karyudo Beer made by Tosa Kuroshio Bakshu actually uses dashi (made from fish and seaweed) to make this beer. I've never had it, nor have I met anyone else that has, so I'm not going to slam it just quite yet. However, it's sure not getting any love from beer drinkers around the world. Fish, seaweed and beer are all good things, but maybe just not put together.
I have said it before, but the Japanese seem to love the idea of combining the things that they love. I joked earlier in the year on another beer forum that we would know we have seen it all whenthe Japanese start using fish to make their beer. If I had only known!
If anyone out there has tried this brew, let me know how it tastes... I will be in Hiroshima this weekend which is closer to where this beer is made, and I will keep my eyes out for it. My fish eyes that is.....

Hey Country Boys,
I'm enjoying your site. Don't know about this beer though. I never saw it before, but on the web site it says they used katsuo flakes and rice as well in making it. Sounds like a good Japanese-style breakfast! I couldn't find anywhere selling it mail order. Maybe it is a temptation one is better off resisting.
I'm in Kyoto, always looking for good beer to drink, so if you ever head out to Kansai, drop me a line and we'll share a few.
