Inuyama Loreley Beer's Chocolate Malt--Review!

So I was a bit lazy last night after drinking the delicious Chocolate Malt from Inuyama Loreley Beer, and didn't post a review. I assumed, of course, that there would be time when I got to work the next morning.

Allow me to perch myself upon yon soapbox for a moment. My work starts at 8am. I, being the responsible adult that I am, prefer to arrive at work at 7:30am to allow myself time to wake up, enjoy a cup of coffee, and ease my way into the day. I DO NOT arrive at work to "start working" early. There is a teacher here who attacks me as soon as I walk in the door. I am not joking. While I am still taking off my jacket, she will approach me and start talking about "work" and "planning." To borrow a phrase from my mother and the homeland, she would worry a wort on a piss ant.

Being the naive person that I am, I assumed that real work did not commence until the hour that work is scheduled to start, and even then--if work starts at 8am, I am not expected to do anything until say...9am. This teacher didn't get the memo. As I type this at 7:57am she has already given me two errands to do, and two classes to plan for the afternoon.*

Back to the brew. Loreley Beer's Chocolate Malt is great. I had a good feeling about this beer ever since my girlfriend bought it for me as an early Valentine's present. The brew is packaged a little "girly", but inside--there's nothing girly about that. Great roasted malt taste with the hops to follow. A malty smoothness with a hop kick in the teeth. This brew has character a quality that's hard to define but something that is definitely missing from many Japanese brews. I drank this beer to celebrate a early start to the weekend, as I was anticipating an easy Friday. (ha!) What a great beer. I will be going back to Nagoya this weekend, and I will be searching for more of this tasty stuff...if I can remember which department store's basement sold it...

Also, I found a Subway (the sandwich one) in downtown Nagoya which has me excited. I enjoy a good Sub, but now just need to get the Japanese people to understand that "a lot of pickles" means more than 5. If you ask for "a lot of pickles" at my hometown Subway, you will get about a half a pound. Nice.

I would write more, but I have just been informed that I need to go to the Board of Education. I can tell you one thing, 4PM today is going to feel oh so good.

*of course I still found time to write this post about beer. I justify it by the fact that if she hadn't been more bothersome than a pimple on my rear, I would have had this post written well before the work hour officially commenced. As it is now, I am forced to write this and get paid for it.

The variety of beers you manage to get your hands on here is stunning and awe-worthy. I am humbled.

John, thanks! It's not easy for sure, and believe it when my girlfriend and I are driving around and I spot a new liquor store, she already knows we are stopping. We plan our weekend "getaways" to places with good Japanese scenery, food, and microbreweries! Nate is lucky that he and his girl Miyuki both know some people that are "high up" in the Japanese beer world, and that helps a lot.
The main thing to remember when looking for ji-beer in Japan is that most of them won't be in 7-11s or ministops, but the dingy mom and pop shops and huge superstores.

That being said, there is no ji-beer in Toei-cho, which saddens me. Have you ever looked at where I am on a map of Aichi?

Yikes.
