I found this bad boy last weekend in Nagoya. SanktGallen is the self proclaimed "Enthusiasts Choice", and pretty tasty--even though they need to add an apostrophe.
I have drank some of their beers before, but this was the first time I had seen this brew. It packs a nice 7% alkehall, and by smelling it I could tell that they used East Kent Goldings, Cascade and nugget hops in the brew. OK, I lied. I read that on the label.
I could smell the orange though. Strong orangey citrusey smell
. Not too bad.I'll be honest, I didn't think this beer was the cat's pajamas. Maybe I was expecting too much, but this beer didn't do it for me. It didn't taste like orange as much as it smelled, but it did have a bitter orange kick at the end. Imagine chewing on an orange peel. That bitter.
It was a good beer that kick started the evening, but I wouldn't say it was great. SanktGallen has the air of high class beer, and this a good one to taste with friends. I don't think I'd reach for it first after a hard days work.
Now, on to the Imperial Chocolate Stout.

The most mediocre of the Chocolate beers Sankt Gallen produces. Impy this year is better than last and the Sweet Vanilla isn't as balanced as last year.
Urgh. Don't like Sankt Gallen, either.
Bah, humbug!
p.s. word verification has done it again. Tardon looks too much like hardon.
Or perhaps it's me.
Not the hardon, I meant the misunderstanding.
