The Soon to be Most Hated Man in Oregon

So, I wrote a post last week stating how Kentuckians might be paying more for beer in the upcoming months. I also tried to take a look at how beers are taxed here. It looks like I shouldn't be complaining--because Oregon has gone and outdone us. This squirrely looking granolite is proposing a 1900% increase in taxes on beer in Oregon. I didn't miss-type that. An increase of 1900% percent. Now, its true that Oregon's current taxes on beer are among the lowest in the nation, and they haven't been raised since before I was born--but come on. Shame on you Ben. You should know better.

Did anyone stop and think that the low taxes on beer in Oregon may be one of the reasons that they are making so much good beer there?

It's true that these are tough times for everyone, even beer drinkers and brewers. And if you see Rep. Ben Cannon*, please tell him that beer drinkers everywhere are not happy with him...to say the least.

*You can email Mr. Cannon here rep.bencannon@state.or.us and tell him what a turd sniffer he is.

Look at his face. It's got 'I-like-to-drink-fuzzy-navels-when-my-boyfriend-puts-it-in' written all over it.

Strangely enough, that's just what I look like after I drink-fuzzy-navels-when-my-boyfriend-puts-it-in.
Weird, that.
However, I wouldn't dream of a tax increase on beer.
Happoshu should go up, but never beer.
Also, there should be a quality/taste tax. If the product tastes like Super Dry/Bud light, then tax the ass off it. If it's a wonderful brew, give it tax free status and pride of place in my beer fridge. Make it a poin of national pride. At last, something america can make that is a quality product - BEER! The US should be proud and support their artisans and entrepreu(?)neurs (I have no idea how to spell that), not seek to exploit and taxate them.
Grrrrr!

Being from Oregon, I can say that the low beer tax is great for the area and they should fine another place to raise this revenue.

If they cut into that culture, they're threatening one of the main tourist draws to the area: fine beer and cool brewpubs.

Say no to new beer tax.

It's time for a properly measured response, by which I mean terrorist attacks on Oregon.

I think the lobby groups from wine and other hard liquors are behind this. He is not the most hated man in Oregon at all, he definitely has some wine producer friends. I say the beer industry counter proposals to keep the beer tax at 1900% increase and increase wine and spirits taxes by the same amount. Any support for that would surely guarantee him "Most Hated Man in Oregon" , losing the next election and probably make him unemployable due to his popularity. He then would turn to alcohol to bury his sorrows and then he would find himself checking into a clinic which was set up using his proposal. It all makes sense? No.
Seriously I am all for the increase, as long as beer is not discriminated against. Good luck in raising that amount with the wine and spirits crowd - they are much better organized than the beer crowd (unfortunately). If not equally increased, then toss the bill out and come up with something else more palatable.
