We had fun at the festival because we met a ton of great people, a ton of cool brewers, we drank a ton of good beer, and it was all free. I don't think the "luxury mystique" that the festival was going for is the way to go, but I still had fun. The halls were not crowded with folks trying tons of beers, but to me it seemed like the place was full of restaurant and bar owners who were networking.
I don't know if this will be the only year for the Grande Biere festival, or how it looked in the eyes of the parties in charge. I had a good time though.
The atmosphere was a bit uptight, but what do you expect from a place that is serving a cheese and olive plate for 1,000yen? My final thoughts? The direction that jibeer needs to take in Japan is not the direction that the Grande Biere festival is going. In fact, things like this festival could hurt craft beer in Japan in the long run...
Hope all of you that went had a great time, and drank your fill. Now that that is out of the way, let's start the posting about good beer from this past weekend.
