I should have known something was up. I looked in the fridge at the local liquor store and saw ONE new Kirin Ichibanshibori. The owner wouldn't sell it to me--jerk. He also had one of these bad boys sitting right beside it. The website says that it is set to come out in April 2009--so I don't know how this old boy got one. He must have some inside connections...Suntory is releasing "The Straight", a 6% happoshu that is sure to taste bad. I'm not going to pull any punches. However, they are running a campaign similar to Kirin's last month where you can register to maybe win a couple of free cans of the stuff. They will pick 20,000 names, and those lucky folks get a couple of free cans.
I don't think I would buy the stuff, but hey--free (kinda)beer? I'll give that a go... Check the link here to see what you can do...

I see quite a few beers out in shops way before their 'release dates'. Used to get the new big boy 4 beers about 2 weeks or so before release on a regular basis. No idea why they give them a release date, if that's the case. But then this is Japan.
A prominent beer expert once said I was mistaken when I said I'd tried this new beer he mentioned, as it wasn't due for release for another few days. I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd been drinking it for 2 weeks.
Chuwy, no doubt you and your beer buds can get some stuff in Tokyo before the release...but here in Toei??? Where's this guy getting his stuff from???? Have you seen where I am on a map? And i'll be in Tokyo all day Sunday.....
If I'm still standing when I eventually get through Yokohama station, I'll try to see if you are.
If we're both still standing, well, we're jsut gonna have to do something about that.
