Baird's Mikan Ales

Alright fellow Japanese beer nerds...I'm back!!!! Ishigaki and Iriomote Islands were amazing and I have squeezed all of the fun out of this break that I could. I apologize for the lack of posts to those who view daily, and I promise that we won't disappoint in the next few weeks. We will be posting a few great interviews this week, as well as reviews of all of the Okinawan Beer that I could find.

However, I'll start with continuing the Baird Beer love fest. The last time I was in Numazu, I bought The Carpenter's Mikan Ale and a Shizuoka Summer Mikan Ale to bring home to try with the Ole Lady. While we were at the Taproom, we met The Carpenter, so that experience made buying his Mikan Ale all the more important.

I told Nate the other day that the time for drinking Stouts is almost passed for me, and the time to drink Spring and Summer beers is at hand. I started with The Carpenter's Mikan Ale.

The Carpenter's Mikan Ale. Great. Hop and Mikan Bitter and Citrus tastes with malty goodness. This beer is WELL MADE. I must say that this brew, choc full of cloudy (pulpy!) mikan goodness was awesome to drink. This beer is comparable to no other like it, and you have got to drink it.

Shizouka Summer Mikan Ale. Slightly less alcohol, and less heavy flavor. Lightly and for sure more bubbly. I could and would drink this all the live long day if I had it at hand and pockets deep enough. Great Beer.

I'm not one to get into super in-depth reviews--I can just tell you that these two beers are STELLAR. Drink them.

If you forced me at gunpoint (or just asked me) I would tell you that The Carpenter's Mikan Ale was better, because it has a more robust taste (if you will). Maybe I just thought the real Carpenter was cool and I like his Mikans better???

More to come soon Jibeer Lovers!!!

Welcome back. I trust you had a great time. Yes, two very nice 'happoshu' beers, there!

Chuwy--a blast was had for sure! I had a good talk with Yamaguchi san from Kinshachi last week about "happoshu" and all that jazz. Terrible the Japanese government and their taxes!

Although if all happoshu tasted like that...well, there's a lesson there, perhaps.
I just don't know what it is.
