Nihede Beer

I think this brew is made on the main island, and to tell you the truth, I'm not even going to do any research about it. This was the first Jibeer of the trip--I paid 600 yen for the Nihede "Soft Type" in Naha Airport--and I was so disgusted with myself that I wasn't about to throw away another 600 and try the other kind. I'd rather take 600 yen-blend it up, mix the powder with some water--and drink it, than buy another one of these beers. (Not really, I guess--I just wanted to fit in a Will it Blend?)

Seriously though, this beer wasn't good. I'm guessing the "Hard Type" (there are two versions) was a darker version--but I'll never find out. I could have bought 2 Orion Tall Boys for the price of that stinker---and let me assure you that the two Orion Tall Boys would be a better deal.

With all of the other good craft beer in Okinawa, I don't know why you would buy this beer. Everything that Okinawa Ishigaki Jima Beer makes is better than this Nihede, and the two Helios Beers that I had (Blue Sky and Sea Weizen and Goya Draft) were miles ahead of this beer. I'll write a review soon--but the Goya Draft was actually a pretty darn good tasting beer, and their Blue Sky and Sea Weizen was downright tasty.

Long story short--avoid this beer. Opt for the Ishigaki Beers or Helios which were the exact same price at the airport.

Hey, just wondering if you know of any brewing supply stores here on Okinawa. I am about sick of this Japanese commercial ish and would kill for a Sam Adams Double Bock, or anything from the Great Lakes Brewing Co. Hell even a Goose Island Pere Jaques. The closest thing I get to good beer is a Delirium Tremens over at alltech but its like 600 yen a bottle, **** that.

So coming from a family of home brewers I am gonna take it up once again.

Any advise?

Don't know of anything specific....Do you have a Tokyu Hands in Naha? They have brewing stuff...your best bet is to use the net....

Alltech is there?

600 a bottle for Delirium isn't a bad price at all....but if you want to homebrew...go for the net route. What do you think of Helios?

The USA is leading the way in craft beer right now and Great Lakes is great stuff!

I am still used to getting DT cheaper in the states. Its actually a little more than 600 yen but my memory is a little fuzzy at the moment...

Yea, Alltech has like 3 locations in Okinawa, Naha and Ginowan that I know of. Too bad for me there is no tokyu hands in Oki. I asked the wife and she sais I would really like the store... like rubbing salt in the wound.

I read about Helios in Naha but haven't had a hell of alot of time to go down there to check it out. I will get down that way sometime this year ; )

The Great lakes brewing company comes out with a brew called the Edmund Fitzgerald, it is some good dark beer. A Deep Red color. Highly recommended
