There's more Orion Beer in Okinawa than fat girls at the Scott County Fair. Those of you who have been to the Scott County fair will know--there must be a lot of Orion Beer down there. Orion is in every bar, every store, and every combini. I was surprised to find out that Orion isn't letting The Big Four get away with making all that crappy beer--Orion makes quite a few Happoshus as well.
Orion is your run of the mill light lager--and of course is easy to drink and suits the beach just fine. The hotel we stayed in had Orion draft available in the lobby for 500 yen a pint. Not bad. The kegerator was stuck out in the middle of the room--so those less honest than me could have snuck out at night and stole a frothy pint or two. Chuwy-don't get any ideas!!!
I had fun drinking the Orion--since it is somewhat of a novelty--but trust me--it wears off quickly. It did go well with the Ishigaki Raw Beef Sushi and massive amounts of Goya Champuru that we put down over the course of the five days. (Goya Beer post coming soon--you may be surprised!)
There's not a much better to unwind after a rough day of snorkeling and hiking than sitting back with your ole lady, an tall Orion, and a bag of spicy chips. Well, I guess if I was drinking some craft beer it would be a tad bit better...

One of the best things to come out of Okinawa! Oh, and better than Asahi! Okinawans know how to drink. :)
I'd put Awamori way above any beer that's come out of Okinawa (and it's not beer). Orion is just bland lager, I'm afraid. Had the marine beer and one or two others but it's a little dissapointing that there aren't more beers down there. Perhaps the market is for an American style cheap bud substitute? I don't think Orion is not the worst there is but there is a lot better stuff out there. Just Orion is so easy to find and the other stuff isn't. I'm sure there is this one tiny brewery, out in like someone's back shed on a small island that you have to take a little boat to get to... Can't remember the name of it now. Memroy has not been my strong point, lately.
there is no good beer in oki but maybe helios pale ale.. and you can only get it on draft one place
