To celebrate this momentous occasion, Guinness released the Guinness Anniversary Stout. I don't think it has made it's way to Japan yet. Not that it would be earth-shattering if it did. Hell, DH told me that he doesn't even care that much for Guinness Draught. He likes Guinness Extra Stout better.
Guinness Draught, out of the can, is not the most distinguished of black beers (officially, it's color is a deep shade of ruby, thank you wikipedia), but it has its moments:1. What else are you gonna drop Bailey's/Irish Whiskey into to make a Car Bomb?
2. What other beer is going to effortlessly float on a lager in your half and half?
3. What else are you going to drink while nursing to make sure your baby grows into a man?
In other news that is new to me...who knew that the Guinness Book of World Records was conceived by a Guinness managing director in 1951 over which was the fastest game bird in England? Maybe I'm by myself on this on, but I never put Guinness and Guinness together.

Guinness Draught is cat shat.
now dan, that's a little harsh
I used to drink pints of the stuff when I frist came ehre.
And at 1000 a pint. crazy.
I and a lot of people put the big three as Beamish, Murphy's and guiness. In that order.
As for giving to expecting mothers, wasn't that the oatmeal stout (e.g. Samuel Smith) that was given to nursing mothers by the British Government, way back in the stone age? Some traditiones are certainly worth keeping and even improving upon - free oatmeal stout to anyone feeling under the weather...or even in need of an oatmeal stout, I say! Hurrah!!!!
Yeah I think you're right, Chuwy. I'm sure some nursing mother has drank a Guinness at some point, though. I buy Guinness at Jusco for 250 yen a can.
I keep trying to tell my wife about beer will make our kids manly, "Darlin have a beer, its good for you and makes the babies tough" my wife says: "but we have all girls" me; "Soooooo!"
Aint nothing wrong w/ a Guiness now and then, but man its like eating a whole meal in just one serving.
I read that if u drink a lot of beer, it increases the chances that your children will be girls. Weird, that. U'd think it would be the other way round.
Guinness at my OK is about 220 a can, the same price more or less as a 500ml Heartland or a Ginga Kogen wheat beer.
Doesn't mean I guy them, though.
