Later we went to the Hard Rock Cafe and then street drank outside Spirits, the best bar in Sakae. However, Spirits is no longer the greatest liquor store in Nagoya. That distinction now belongs to Okadaya near Nagoya Station. With the help of Nagoya Gaijin Nick and a map I drew from the internet (we don't have no printers down in Tahara!) we found this liquor store and...amazing.

This is the Ji-Beer selection there: All seven Baird regular beers, All Hakusekikan, All Swan Lake's beers, All Minoh Beers including the W-IPA for 578 yen a bottle, All Nest beers including the Japan Classic Ale (never tried it before), Loco Beer including the Coconuts Porter (Lance drank it and was down). I think there were more but I was in such a heightened state of ectasy at the moment that the memory is a bit compromised. I also forgot to take any pictures. Here are a couple beers hanging out.

Rob drank a Minoh W-IPA and declared it "one of the best, if not the best IPA I've ever had. It had a good hoppy bitterness, but it didn't bite my tongue." We both agreed that a visual representation of the beer would be like doctor slapping a new born on the ass. Like the picture below.
Okadaya is the bomb! It is open from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm everyday but Sunday and the website is here.

Nice shop. Seems they also have Harvest Monn, Sankt Gallen and Shonan beer. Good find, ddue.
I still say if you can, get yourself some Ozenoyukidoke IPA. I found one in the seijuishii in either Nagoya or Hamamatsu station. The Minoh was a DIPA (hence the Japanese pronunciation of 'W' as double), this ozeno is an American style IPA. Damn fine too. Good hunting!
Surprised they have the Nest Japanese Classic Ale - Kiuchi-san told me it was export only. They have it cedar ages on handpump in their restaurant in Mito - awesome.
I've added you to the links section on my blog. Will be dropping by more often to read about your beer adventures.

I've had the Japanese classic in bottle a few times. I see it in many stores, so Kiuchi san was either mistaken, lying or talking out his arse.
I strongly suspect it was the first one! Or it could well be that they have only been selling this one in bottles recently (I'm sure I had it over a year ago), in which case I apologise to the guy.
It's not a bad beer from the bottle (poss the better Nest, along with the amber and maybe extra high) and even better on tap (had it at Beer Rock in Tokyo - 800yen a pint).
Stil, I don't care much for Nest.
I think many Americans like them as they haven't had much to compare to, Japanese craft beer wise...until recently, that is. Baird plus Ginga Kogen and many others are beginning to export to the Sates now. America could be an even better place for craft beer than it already is!
Good blog, dude. Great info on an interesting and most delicious topic. The homebrew at the BEERS hanami this year was bloody lovely. It's just a pity that a certain someone got silly drunk. There's always one.
Guys get your ozenoyukidoke from this site.

And this one has some japanese beers but also a nice selection of american ones.

Yes, Giovanni, it's a good jibeer site.
Guys, if you do try Ozeno, then the IPA and the heavy heavy barleywine. The rest aren't worth it. The prices on that site match retail prices.
I can't wait to get my grubs on some of those brews this weekend!!!!!!
And some jisake!
Just found this. Well, that was 2 years ago. Think I bought it from a department store in Sagamiono.
Hey DH thanks for commenting on my blog over at japanesebeer.lifeintokyo.info
I read your review of Sapporo Beisen and I have to disagree with you a little. I thought it kind of tasted like a knockoff whitbier the way they made it. The price was right too for a taste slightly similar to my baby Hoegaarden.
What are your thoughts on Asahi Jukusen? I still think Suntory Premium is the best of the standard offerings out.
I have yet to try the other Yebisu styles like red can and The Hop... what do you think of them?
WEll, that was Nate's review...the other country boy...and while I haven't had it....I don't think a white beer was what they were going for.....
With that being said--that is what makes beer great--there's something for everyone.
I think that premium Asahi tastes just like super Dry---no taste. I do drink the Premium Malts and New Ichiban Shibori out here in the hills--cause there is nothing else to be had...but I avoid Asahi if i can....
Just search Yebisu on this blog. It's no secret that we think it is all overpriced hype...new one hits stores in late June...
Dude, your up early. Up with the rising of the co-I mean male chicken. Didn't think that beer tasted like a wit bier but like you mentioned we all have different tastes. Luckily there is enough booze out there that there is almost something for everyone. The devil certainly knows his stuff!
