Hope everyone had a great week, although I think it was a pretty mild one. It seems that our good buddy Chuwy is down with a toothache, I've cut my foot to shreds, and money is short in general. Never fear, the meat of the summer is near. I'll be back in KY in almost a month!! I will be coming back to Japan though in the fall. Nate, I'm sad to say, is going back to the land of bourbon, blond women and horses for good. Don't worry though, once he is back he is going to start brewing full-time and try to turn this passion into something that will pay the bills, or at least the bar tab.
Saturday will find Nate and myself trolling around Nagoya looking for good beer. For sure we will hit all of the hot spots and the new store Okadaya, which sells awesome beer. (for Nagoya anyways) I might even make it to Towser in the evening. Anyone who wants to join me at one of their outside tables with a proper pint or six, let me know!
I'll be doing a post about where to find good jibeer in Japan, as a fella named Duncan sent me an email asking where the best beers could be found--'cause for sure it's not the convenience store. SO, what do you think good readers? Do you have one store that you frequent for all of your beer needs, or are there many? Do you hit the department store basements, or speciality shops? Tell us in the comments.
I hope everyone enjoyed the interview with Greg Koch. He is one of the hottest brewers (if not the hottest) in the world right now and it was a huge boost for the site. Thanks to everyone that submitted questions, even if he didn't get a chance to answer them all. (Sorry Chuwy!) Your hits and comments make it all possible for sure. We have a few more interviews in the works, and if one in particular works out--you (and I!!!!) will be very impressed. Any guesses on who it might be???
That being said, Chris Poel posted a few brewers in the comments that he would like to see an interview with. Pipe up the rest of you! Who would you like to see us interview??
Lastly, I will leave you with a pic from the homeland. I'm heading to the 'ole home place in a few weeks, and already I can smell the bourbon based BBQ cooking on the grill and the Kentucky Ale in my glass. I can feel the warm summer night and the glow of the campfire. I can hear the frogs croaking and the crickets singing while the fireflies dance around in the air......wait....What's that I hear? Is that the murmur of the creek? No, it sounds like an engine??! OH WAIT! It's a drunk redneck riding a wheelie on a four-wheeler with a recliner mounted on the back as a seat! He's going straight into the fire!!!!!!

Ohhh man, nothing in the world is better than pics from the GBCB. One again pure classics!!! I really hope you guys can make it up here before July 17th as I will be going to Canada that day for two weeks and then I guess you guys are gone in August.
TimE!!! I'll be back here next year!
TimE I'll email you more...but would you be free to come to Numazu next weekend, 27th???
You should do an interview with Nate about his brewery plans - then 10 years later he'll be able to look back and quote it.
Would have been good to meet you guys once before you leave - unless you'll be back in TK or at the WanCup event, it looks unlikely.. darn it!
Numazu next weekend fellas!!!
NUMAZU! NUMAZU!! NUMAZU!!!
Hmmmm... this may work more beautifully then I could have ever imagined. I need to be in Odawara at 930am on Monday 29th, so I think Sunday should be spent somewhere down in Numazu area, but then if I go Sunday I might as well go Saturday too. Not sure where to stay, but I am sure I will figure something out. Want to do some hiking down there too. Fun weekend ahead I think.
Yeah guys....ANYONE AND EVERYONE is invited to The FishMarket Taproom Next Saturday the 27th!!! We are going to chill around Numazu in the afternoon and then rock the house out all evening at the taproom. It will one of Nate's last trips there, and his final summer in Japan! COME ONE, COME ALL!
I may make myself highly visible, as usual. Or highly audible.
May pop down on the bike and stay in my tent.
DH, that quad looked like a honda big red 350. Not sure if he can sit in the seat and steer the bike at the same time, unless he uses his feet or he literally is a clever dick.
You got some wicked air in that last shot but you look so calm. If you had been squatting sideways, pulling a mooney, then THAT would have been really impressive. Nice little collection of big bale hay in the background. Guess you took the pic in late Sept?
p.s. I also think Greg Koch is hot, hot hot!!!!
Smoooking!" Especially in those black framed glasses and hot pantssssss!
That's a Foreman 450, and I think the chair is for the passenger! The one I am on is an Odyssey 350. That thing can fly! Literally!
That pic was taken in early October to be exact!!! Good eye!
We will be camping in Numazu as well...could be classic weekend!
DO you guys have extra room in the tents for camping? What are your plans on Sunday?
I may go down in the early evening on Sat, but not sure yet, and then do some thing outdoors Sunday. Just worried about the friggin' weather.
I might bring down a bottle or two of something special as well, but not sure.
Shoot, I'll be in Chiba on Saturday (my wife's birthday), but will be back at the brewery, sweating my ass off on Sunday. I usually brew on Sunday, which means I get done around 4:30 or so -- sometimes later, depends on what needs to be done. If anyone's going to be around in the late afternoon/early evening of Sunday 28th, I'd be happy to drink some pints with you at Fishmarket (Numazu) Taproom.
Yeah it looks like it might just be Sunday for me too. Can the GBCB do Sunday?
Tim
Guys, we will be around on Sunday, but will have to leave sometime in the afternoon (5ish?) in order to get back to Toyohashi at a decent hour. From there I have a two hour train ride back to my place!!!
Sat is a go though!
I'll do a post about it, but thinking about sushi and playing along the sea wall during the day--then the taproom from evening on--followed by some camping.
