The 4th of July!!!

Another sunny Friday morning in the mountains. That never gets old!!! Time is winding down on this semester, and I am glad. In less than two weeks I will be back in KY for summer vacation, but I will be back in Japan in the fall. Just to make you jealous, I will be spending my time at Pazzo's Pizza Pub, and you can look here at their draught and bottle lists. Did you see those bottle prices??? I love KY!

This weekend will be spent running errands and trying to get my visa crap in order for the trip home. I don't know if I will have much time to go beering. I was going to hit Towser on Saturday night, but looks like we will be dining with friends instead. Oh well, at least these are the friends that have expensive sake!!!

On to some beer news from Japan and around the globe.....

1. Get to know the Kirin Jockeys.

2. Enter to win your Premium Malt's Jug here.

3. Next time you are drinking in your favorite mall, try this.

4. Summer is here and it's wheat beer drinking time. Educate yourself.

I've got some buddies at home trying to secure some Stone 13th Anniversary Ale this weekend. Wish them luck. This weekend looks like its going to be dominated by Yona Yona and Tokyo Black--and that is fine with me! Although, I think I will throw some Ginga Kogen in there if it is nice and sunny.

We had an discussion about HomebrewJapan in Numazu. No one who it is besides Chuwy. Apparently, he/she doesn't want to be known to the rest of the blogging world. Sounds a bit prudish to me. (It's about time we got a little friendly smack talking going...) We all know that if anyone was going to get busted for home brewing in Japan, it would probably be the hundreds of brewers who gather each year for the WanCup.

But, you can never be too careful. So, we are now changing the name of this site to "Good Beer and Baguettes" brought to you by Jean-Claude and Pierre.

Hope all of you enjoy your 4th weekends!!!! You know we will be!

Also, check out a nice video about love hotels!!!

just let myself get sucked into buying some guinness anniversary stout. It was awful at first, but then I realized I just spat out some mint gum that was mucking up the taste. About half way through it washed most of it away and wasn't that bad, pretty good even. I need another couple, though, because I kept expecting it to have that full guinness taste and it was tough to adjust. Fortunately I have 5 more all to myself!

Red, you coming back to Japan in the near future???

You won't be disappointed with the IPA!!!!! Also, try some Rogue while you are at it!

Jean Claude, the Stone IPA is good. I'm finding the Rogues are just too sweet these days. The Imperial IPA was lovely.
Just missed meeting Homeknitting Japan last night. 8 pints of 7% Preston IPA was enough for me, seeing as I was working early this morning. Just taught my last class until sept. Feels good. Happy 4th July, jean Pierre and claude. I'm waiting also to taste 13th Anniversary. Waiting for it to come to Japan.

Chuwy, I've only got one week and two days to go until I'm done for the summer. Can you believe I know an ALT up here in the hills that has to go into the board of ed every day over summer break and just sit at his desk???

Spring break he had to clean the town koi pond!!!

I'll be hitting the Tokyo Black tonight I've decided...

DH, I'll be in Tokyo on July 24th and 25th. Then back to Beervana on the 26th. Looks like you'll be back in KY by then.

Looking forward to the Stone IPA. Gonna fill up a cooler with ice, sit on the front porch, watch all the little kids shoot bottle rockets at each other.

Chuwy, have you tried Rogue's Brutal Bitter (not sure if it's available in Japan, should probably check out Phred's web site)? It's pretty tasty.

Plenty of people know who I am, including Nate - since he's part of the homebrewers forum - and anyone who has ever bothered to mail me and start a conversation.

Before you slag someone off publicly for not telling you who they are, as least have the decency to mail them and TRY to find out.

Since I'm the only person regularly writing about homebrewing in Japan on the net, there are good reasons not to have my name associated with the website. If you don't understand that - ask Nate what I mean.

Yeah, because attending a public gathering is baaaad.

Whereas writing detailed info about what your brewing, encouraging others to brew, and being the only Gaijin to be writing about it in Japan on an almost daily basis is good. Heck even Nate was too scared to write anything about his homebrewing on this website for ages.

Easy, boys.
No one needs to start throwing handbags.
I've been lucky enough to meet you all and there's definitely no asshole amongst the lot of you (unless you count that Chuwy guy - what an asshole!).
None of what DH wrote was meant as an offense. Of that I'm sure.
I may have influenced his words or way of thinking, as craftbrewJapan up in conversation in Numazu as the mysterious new blogger. No one knew your name and I may have let slip that I did but I wasn't saying what it was. It's not as if you are a secret spy and quite a few people know you. We all knew you were British, from the blog posts but for the sake of anonymity, we should leave it at that. As you may have realised after meeting me last night, I can be pretty good at confusing people (not leastly myself) and I think in backtracking out of that conversation about your identity (Chris knows you and started to talk about you and I 'hm hmmm!'d to let him know that perhaps you didn't want your identity to be public knowledge), the only option I had was to leave everyone confused. Didn't even confirm if this mystery blgoger was even male or female. So if there is any bad blood now because of a post, then I should take at least partial responsibility. I didn't start the conversation, I tried to end it but may have just added to the 'mystery'. Obviously sometimes we forget the responsiblity we have with the blog entries we post. I for one definitely gotto watch what I type and say. Things get misconstrued, people get offended, sh*t happens and everything gets out of control real fast. There's nothing wrong in being careful, just in case some dick in government decides to reign in an illegal homebrewer or two. Sure would hate to ever see that happen. What you brewers do is awesome. ALL of you. I think THAT is the pinnacle of craft beer, the very lifeblood and soul of it. What you guys do is wonderful and I cherish and appreciate any opportunity to try any of your stuff.
I'm gonna cry now.
Nate's was good, as was HomeBrewJapan's. I never even had to pretend to like it once!
DH, I hope I can try some of your lovely juice soon.

OMG, what did I just say about being careful over what I typed?

You guys should perhaps have a pint or 5 together. I think you'll like each other, given the chance.
If not, then perhaps it's good to sort this out now and say what you want to say via mail instead of posting.
Both you guys are cool guys.
I expect I'll have angry comments from TWO pissed off beer bloggers in a few hours.
(>_<)

I agree with everything Chuwy said (other than him being an asshole -- he's really a nice guy, although maybe he doesn't want that as public knowledge). Nothing I heard was meant to demean anyone, and DH's comments were not meant to be offensive -- I don't think DH has an offensive bone in his body.

Beer will cure all -- so look forward to meeting up and sharing some pints. Everyone will go home happy, guaranteed.

Chuwy said...

Yes, We should all meet up in the Numazu taproom and Chris will buy us all a beer again, just like last time. Chris - you are a genius!
I'll have a morning coffe Stout, please.
p.s. after I got back, I accidentally put my nonbei card thru the bloody wash. I still had 10 pint stamps left on it! Shoot.
2 pints cost me 7000yen.
+_+

Well, there was that one time when he got up and turned and his erection knocked over my pint.

Friends!!! Homebrew included!! All in good fun I assure you! Homebrew we had a good laugh and conversation in Numazu about the mysterious homebrew blogger, I assure you nothing more than a little smack talking--good natured at that!!!! For sure I look forward to the time when we can share some pints together!

AND, if anyone knows anything about getting involved with the Japanese authorities, it may just be this country boy--but that's another story for the round table as well!!

Hope all of you had great weekends, I just drank the big Sankt Gallen bottle with my girlfriend and her dad--not too bad, but it could have been the good food we were eating!

I'll be back tomorrow with more, when my girl's three year old niece isn't crawling around and farting in my ear. NOT FUN.

Chris said...

Chuwy -- if you haven't thrown away the washed nombei-ken, bring it in next time you come to Numazu -- we've been known to give replacements in situations like yours -- seriously!!!

And if not, there will definitely be some pints waiting for you "off the books."

Chuwy makes a good point about things getting misconstrued. For example, take this phrase from one of his posts:

"DH, I hope I can try some of your lovely juice soon."

Chuwy, use that phrase here on the U.S. West Coast and you may find something other than a beer bottle stuck in your mouth...

Chuwy said...

Ooh,you are awful...bit I like you!

Very true Red. Reminds me of the time when I tried to tell my girlfriend I didn't belive her via IM. I said, 'Get Outta Town!'

She did.
