Greetings! You have found Good Beer and Country Boys, a blog created about the first by the latter. Some native Kentuckians chronicle their search for great beer in The Bluegrass and Beyond!
It appears! Chuwy, in the US--I would say 95% of the craft beer isn't chilled. There are way too many to put them all in the fridge. Makes you wonder about the brewers that take steps to ship cold--like Stone. In the local big liquor store in KY, 99% of the Stone is on the shelf and not in the fridge.
Yeah, one of our biggest concerns is how the beer is treated once it leave us. In Japan, we have a measure of control -- we send out a "how to keep our beer in prime condition" sheet to all new accounts (and probably to all accounts to occasionally remind them), but it's hard to do that when the beer gets sent to the States. Sigh.
We've had Baird and Ise Kadoya product in Hawaii for some time at specialty liquor stores. Based on the signage this was taken at a supermarket. This particular chain is known for a wide liquor selection so it's not surprising that they are now carrying Baird.
I haven't had Baird from the tap so I can't tell you how fresh the product is by the time it gets here but I can say I wasn't disappointed.
I've asked retailers and distributors about getting Stone product here and they all say Stone has no interest in the Hawaii market because of shipping costs. That's hard for me to fathom because Rogue et. al. aren't cheap but still sell.
Chad, that's awesome that Baird and Ise Kadoya are doing well in Hawaii. Also good to hear that Baird is holding up well in the bottles. I know that they are looking at ways to send their beers abroad in kegs, and I hope they succeed. On tap, it is excellent.
Charlie Papazian once said that the best place to drink a beer is at its source, and I must agree. Both for taste and atmosphere.
Also, send Greg from Stone an email or reply on twitter. He's really good about staying in touch and wants to hear from all Stone fans. For sure Hawaii would be a big commitment for him or any brewery, and may be down on the list some since his beer isn't available in all of the Continental US yet. They are expanding though.
Any outstanding Hawaiian brews that you recommend?

Non chilled, above the Ballast Point big eye IPA, it seems.

Hey, Chris, now you're here (or have you gone - again!?) - is the MCS out soon?
I'm gnawing my legs off here, in anticipation!
Sincerely,
Stumpy.
Coffee Stout will be released this month, from what the Big Boss has told me. I'm not sure exactly when, but look for it soon.
