Fuji Breweries Scuttlebutt

I'm going to post more about the beer trip soon, but wanted to share with you some of the beer news I was able to hear while traveling last weekend.

Gotemba Kogen Beer: Word on the street is that Gotemba is branching out soon. The brewers there are putting their heads together and each crafting some really cool styles in the near future. Look for an IPA, some darker brews, and even some cask and possibly some real ales. This is good news from a brewery that makes good beer (and steak!).

Baird: I don't have to inform you that Baird is always coming out with new beers and new styles. They make more styles of beer in a year than all of the other breweries in Japan combined.* While we were sneaking around the brewery last weekend, I heard that a Super Double Secret Probation Quadruple Dry Hopped Upside Down Suruga Bay(IIIIPA) was in the works, as well as some other really cool brews. I might have heard that the Harajuku Ale would be going through a change as well.

Fujiyama Beer: Fujiyama has some really excited news as they are going to continue making beer that tastes like carpet cleaner!

It's an exciting time to be a beer lover in Japan!

*I totally just made that up.

Well, the Extra Imperial IPA will only be triple dry hopped -- sorry to disappoint, DH. It's about ready for dry hop week #1. Unfortunately, it won't be ready before you leave. Fortunately, I'll get to drink it -- and I'll give you a report.

Chris, I'm sticking with my name for it.

And when I come back for a few days in April....I may just break into the brewery and have me a few!!!!!!!

Well, we could probably arrange a taste or two then, but it won't be the finished product. Still, you'll get the full hop jolt, no doubt.

Ooh, baby!
A quadruiplicious IPA! Triple dry hopped.
a triple quadruple - gota be worth 1,000 points in scrabble alone.
Plus that new Harajuku ale sounds interesting.
I heard from Chris the details and it sounds very interesting.
Not that there's much wrong with the existing harajuku ale, mind you.
Also Chris, big thanks to Shinya for showing us round the brewery.
I could see at the start he was making an effort as it was his first tour - and in English! Good job. Good guy.
You have good people, over there at Baird. They have to be, to put up with my ugly mug, each time I come round!

Chris, it'd be real interesting if you guys made a Country Boy ale, as opposed to the Country Girl kabocha.
It'd probably have to be bourbon barrelled, tho.

Bourbon barrelled, full flavoured, hoppy DIPA.

Chris...a no go for this weekend. I'm super bummed....What does April 11-13th look like?

Well, I'm working on the 11th and 12th, and the 13th is Taproom closed day. But, I'll definitely be around.

Still, I think you should seriously blow off Nagano and drag your friends down here for the weekend!!!!!
