The New Albanian Brewing Company

The New Albanian Brewing Company located in New Albany, IN really has something good going on. A few weeks ago, Nate and I headed up to Louisville to meet our good buddy Ethan and tour some brewpubs. It just so happened that we would start this snowy day with a trip across the river their Bank Street Brewery.

If you are in or near Louisville, this place should be a staple. It was only about 15 minutes from downtown Louisville, and really easy to find. We arrived at 12PM on a Sunday, as they were opening, and were very well received. We grabbed some seats at the bar and Tonya took great care of us. Many people underestimate the amount of power that a bartender has over the beer. A well knowledgeable barkeep can make the experience much more enjoyable, while a stinker of one can ruin it. Tonya was great.

We sampled all of the beers and I was very impressed. For starters, 5 four oz. tasters were $5, which is very, very reasonable. There were about 15 beers on tap, and most were delicious. I have to say that my favorite (of course) was the Imperial IPA, Hoptimus. The label for it has just been approved and will be hitting stores in the area soon! (Check the label release here on Beernews.org)

The Imperial Bonfire, a 8.5% Smoked Black Lager was really good as well. Ethan made the mistake of ordering a pint of this one first, which in his words started, "knockin' me upside the face" way too early in the day.

They had several different styles of brews in their lineup, which shows that they aren't afraid to step out and try something new. They converted me, and I will return.

Oh yeah, and the food is good too--or so I hear.

It's also worth mentioning, even though it's not beer related, they have a Sunday morning/afternoon bloody mary bar. Can't say I've seen that before.
