I found some Bell's Hopslam this week at the Lexington Liquor Barn, and I saw on Facebook that The Beer Trappe had Sierra Nevada Hoptimum in stock.
Just for a general poll, do you fall for these super hoppy beers, or do you see them as just a fad? I think the hop movement has really changed the face of beer, and we won't ever be the same again.
Or am I just wishing?

Hops, hops and more hops! The 'current fad' with some of the big hopped brews is a veritable revolution for the beer industry. Beer with flavour? (Anything by Mikkeller, for example?) Who would have thunk it? Don't get me wrong, I love some of the big malty beers, but hopping up brews creates a whole different vibe, and adds complexity where there was none before. Here in Australia we are starting to even see some of the big commercial brewers start exploring these options through their 'craft-beer' subsidiaries, but the revolution's gotta start some where...
Depends on how you define changing the face of beer. I suspect those may alter craft beer first and have the biggest impact in that scene. The idea Koops mentions of commercial brewers using subsidiaries to enter the craft market is interesting and you can see them toying with that here. That's probably worthy of its own post, though.
The current fascination with hops will wane, for sure, but the good hoppy beers will remain. Already the brewing scene is shifting away from hops toward sour and barrel aged beers -- that’s where you’re going to see a huge boom in the next few years. But the hops will remain.
I've only tried Hoptimum, Hop Stoopid, and 90min and must say, I guess I do enjoy the super hoppy beers. Hoping they stick around. But having said that, I also like session craftbeers...
@ChrisPoel - Sounds exciting! Really looking forward to whatever the brewers send down the pipeline!
